The first objective was to provide teachers of foreign languages with knowledge how the subject is taught across EU in different schools. The partners were chosen with experience in teaching English literature. The second objective was to help teachers develop their materials, lesson plans to address the needs of their course and students. The third objective was to promote inclusion both in direct activities in the project and also through the use of literature, that would create understanding of the issues in the society of the time of literary work and see its role in the context of our society nowadays. The fourth objective was improved target language skills in students and their active involvement in creation of materials, as they are a target audience to try them out and also provide feedback.
The main issue that the project addressed was the development of materials using literature for teaching a foreign language, in particular, English. We set this goal because in the coordinating country the education reforms introduced a new subject at schools: advanced English at C1 level, based on literature, however, there were no ready-made materials for the course. While aiming for a compilation of lesson plans, the participants gained knowledge, learned and shared their experience. First, the ideas were tried out in workshops with students from partner schools, then adapted for the material, tested, improved. The collaboration led to development of 21st century key competences, such as critical thinking, emotional and social intelligence, cooperation, tolerance and thus also inclusion of different students and staff. Furthermore, along with the theme of inclusion the project raised awareness of environmental issues that partner school countries face. As a result participants planted trees and learned about the measurment of air quality, protection of swamps and importance of water.
