Participation of young people in decision making and cooperating with decision makers promotes more democratic communities. Participation is more than voting or being a candidate for a position. According to the youth experts participation of young people; • Makes a positive difference in the lives of young people • Makes young people heard • Stimulates young people to develop new skills, gain more confidence • Helps adults to recognise young people’s talents and potential • Stimulates young people to take responsibility for their own actions and decisions • Helps young people to understand how democracy works and how it should work in real life • Creates space for young people to use their talents and strengths • Develops adults’ skills so that they can work efficiently with young people One of the main reasons for lacking of knowledge of the young people about participation and difficulties in finding opportunities to cooperate with adults is deficiency of youth workers’ knowledge and metdodology in the field. With the guidance of European Charter on the Participation of Young People in Local and Regional Life with our project youth workers will; • know the basic definitions and approaches on participation, • realize the preconditions and the principles of participation, • explore the methodology used in the EU environment, • know the content of the European Charter on the Participation of Young People in Local and regional Life • analyses the methodology and the target group of the charter • find out the RMSOS and The Six-STEP approaches • study on the Consultation, Committee and Co-management strategies for local cooperation • can convert methodolgies to develop knowledge and skills of the young people in routine exercises.
