Film Forward was born: a project aiming to empower NGOs, youth workers, and youth by equipping them with essential video making skills that will allow them to create professional, better designed, and targeted videos with the equipment they already have (guerilla filmmaking), in order to promote their work, projects, attract partners and volunteers and generate impact on important social issues. Our specific aim through the project was to equip youth workers, young activists, and NGO staff, who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community or allies to it, the partner organizations in our network who work with LGBTQIA+ and other fewer opportunities youth, in order to support and enhance their capacity in using visual media (videography, social media) to engage the active participation of their target groups, and promote their work in their communities and the social issues they are addressing daily. Our goal was to bring together 24 youth workers from 8 organizations and associations across Europe who work in their youth work field with LGBTQIA+ youth and other vulnerable groups and have different levels of familiarity with video-making and empower them through video-making to create impact in their communities. The participants had the chance to learn how they can create professional, high-quality videos with social impact through a combination of non-formal education methodologies: learning by experience and hands-on work, group work, exchange of experiences, and intercultural learning, using digital tools and innovative methods for media literacy education developed by the Trainers, “challenges” and assignments, mentoring and feedback. This combination of methodologies was formed through Trainers’ years of experience in various past media training and has been solidified as a great method for media literacy education, proof of which will come in the form of Youthpass certificates from participants. During the Training Course, we brought participants in an intercultural context in Gauja, (Inčukalns Parish area) in Latvia, to increase their competencies and abilities in the practical creational side, the branding side, but also through leadership, communication, and intercultural activities, which will boost their digital/ICT competences, all through real case scenarios. Moreover, the impact and results carried out also in the partner countries, where the participants followed up with the creation of their own branding campaign and videos. To achieve our aim, we set the following objectives: - increase the life-long competencies (youthpass) and youth work professional development of participants in all project phases. - Train 24 youth workers to create professional, quality social promotional videos, while developing their digital competencies. - Support Youth Workers, NGOs, social initiatives to express their message more clearly (youth, youth workers, partners, stakeholders) and learn about media and the process of promoting targeted messages via social networks used by youth. - Create 5 social promotion videos for 5 local Latvian non-profit organizations/initiatives that work with LGBTQ+ and other social issues in the country. - Create at least 8 social promotion videos for the partner organizations or organizations of their network. - Strengthen cooperation between partner organizations, and empower them to develop new projects focusing on enhancing media literacy among marginalized youth. - promote Erasmus+ and its beneficial role in creating social impact and change.
