The main objective of this project is to integrate social dimensions into agri-climate change adaptations on local level. Climate change is already and will progressively impact people's daily lives in terms of work and livelihoods, health, housing, water, food security and nutrition. This project aims to involve the farmers from the local communities in the identification of the climate change problems and the decision making processes for the adaptation to climate changes. The social involvement of the farmers ensures that the production of the climate change adaptation measures is based on the real needs of the farmers. People from rural areas are projected to bear the brunt of the effects more, partly because they are more reliant on the very natural resources threatened by climate change, and partly because they have less power to protect themselves, adapt, or recover losses. Effective policies and actions to address these impacts and reduce greenhouse gas emissions will mostly rely on the transformation of social and economic connections that contribute to their vulnerability.
The project addresses the critical need for education on climate change and its impact on agriculture, particularly in rural communities that are highly vulnerable to climate risks. It aims to bridge the gap in awareness and understanding among farmers and stakeholders about the connection between greenhouse gas emissions, climate change, and agricultural practices. Additionally, it tackles local-level needs such as the lack of adaptive capacity, insufficient financial support, weak networking among key actors, and limited dissemination of modern technologies and research. The project was initiated to address the increasing vulnerability of agriculture in North Macedonia to climate change impacts. Rural communities, particularly small-scale farmers, face significant challenges, including low adaptive capacity, financial constraints, and a lack of awareness and modern technological solutions. The project seeks to mitigate these challenges by promoting climate literacy, developing strategies for adaptation, and strengthening local resilience.
