Objectives

The main objectives for implementing this project was to enhance teachers’ professional development focusing on training to become better educators. As a school we aim to promote self-sought professional development courses in which teachers will acquire and improve their competencies and contribute to the creation of a more modern, dynamic and professional environment within our school. Teachers had the opportunity to delve and experience hands on the Finnish approach, giving them the necessary skills to be more confident to integrate good practices and new methods into daily activities while enhancing their professional development. This project provided well planned out and effective professional development including training courses, observations, discussions, feedback, dissemination and follow up. It helped teachers to update their knowledge in relevant areas, improve skills and be more of new approaches and techniques in education. This will foster teamwork among staff members and enhances the necessary support to other educators. Through this project the school will give teachers the opportunity to enhance and develop an understanding of how to create more innovative learning environments even through team teaching.

Background

As part of our project, MRC Naxxar Middle School is committed to provide quality education, foster excellent leadership through a distributed leadership approach, and offer continuous professional development opportunities for our staff. These pillars are fundamental to our goal of building strong connections between all stakeholders and the wider community we serve. As part of Maria Regina College, our aims align closely with the college's overall vision, which emphasizes holistic education and the promotion of independent learning. Within our school, we actively encourage a culture of educator-to-educator learning, investing significantly in the professional development of our teachers and the sharing of best practices. This approach is crucial for enhancing teachers' skills and leadership qualities, which are essential for the success of both individual educators and the collective educational system. Our school is dedicated to being creative, innovative, and professional in all aspects of its operation. As educators we recognize the importance of continuously enhancing our professional development to meet the evolving needs of our school and students. Training in the project was in line with our school's development plan.
