Objectives

The first objective was to ensure CPD within the MTA, particularly considering the impact of the pandemic on the local tourism sector, this objective emphasizes the significance of cross-cultural training and niche market development. These training programs directly addressed the needs of boosting tourism arrivals to Malta and enhancing the hospitality and communication skills of frontline staff interacting with tourists. The training of these employees served as an asset in enhancing Malta's position within the tourism industry. Through the cross-cultural training program, participants enhanced their interpersonal skills, leading to improved communication among employees and better collective outcomes. Another objective was to transition the Authority towards a dual pathway by providing training on digital tools in tourism to combat challenges. This digital transformation aimed to enhance the use of digital tools, promote environmental sustainability, and improve work efficiencies. Additionally, training on niche market development was conducted to address needs like environmental tourism aligned with the European Commission's 'Farm to Fork' strategy.

Background

With MTA covering the tourism industry sectors, which represent approximately 15% of the Maltese economy, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Authority can be achieved through these planned training courses. The courses aim to emphasize the importance of digital tools, niche market development, and cross-cultural training. These courses will enhance the daily activities of the Authority, improving marketing strategies, communication skills among employees, and enhanced management, resulting in a digital transformation that will enhance service efficiency and improve interpersonal skills, especially for front-line employees who interact daily with people from different cultures.
