Objectives

Many organizations through the funding programme of Erasmus+ are organizing training courses which tackle different issues which are relevant to them and to the partners who join the projects. The problem is that many organizations do not have the necessary skills set to design and implement a good quality training programme. Many of these organizations, although well intended, lack the basic principles in training and non-formal knowledge thus fail to be efficient in the message that they are trying to send. In addition, training within the Erasmus+ framework is similarly molded, using the same methodologies without thinking about the change which is occurring in the mentality of young people and youth workers who are the target of these activities. Due to technological advancement and increase in internet connectivity and usage, research shows that Millennials developed a new sense of the meaning-making process. This change needs to be taken into account when designing training courses which are targeting millennials and it thus important to 'fuse' the traditional methods which are well known within the non-formal field with new methodologies to be more relevant to millennials. This lack of non-formal knowledge and lack of knowledge of the changes that are occurring amongst the youth usually comes from the fact that in many European countries there is only a few countries where there is actually courses that youth workers can take to become more skilled in the field of youth work. Apart from that there is only a few organizations like Salto that are offering in depth training for trainers courses for interested people who would like to improve their skills in this area. Thus we as a group of partners, we wanted to create the opportunity to train some of our members to become more proficient in this area. The objectives of this training course was to give the necessary competencies through an intensive training of trainers. During this 10-day training course, the participants obtained the basic principles on which training programmes should be built upon. The participants attending this training course were given online coaching sessions to assist them to develop a project of their own. The online coaching was delivered by the trainers to ensure that proper follow-up activities were held and that the participants transferred their new skills in their sending organizations. This training of trainers covered the following topics: - Group dynamics - Facilitation process - Reflection and evaluation process - Ethical issues in a Training environment - Communication skills (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) - Public Speaking - Assessing the needs of participants - How to design an effective training programme - Identity Development Stages – Coaching - Ways of Learning - Conflict Management - Self Assessment and Self-Directed learning - Training in intercultural Environment By exploring the above-mentioned topics, the participants got equipped with the essential skills needed to design and implement relevant and effective training programmes. This also resulted in a bigger impact on many young people who benefitted from having youth workers/trainers who are more skilled in designing and implanting non-formal activities. It is also important to note that the skills that were given during this training course, are not skills that can only be used in Erasmus+ implemented projects. On the contrary these skills can be used in any trainings and workshops that the participants have with young people in the future. This training also addressed the EU Youth Strategy for EU youth policy cooperation for 2019- 2027, based on the Council Resolution of 26 November 2018. This EU Youth Strategy focused on 3 words’ Engage, Connect and Empower’. Through this project, we gave more tools to youth workers and trainers to be able: - Engage more through new tools which are specifically designed around millennials, - Connect through more knowledge about methodologies and awareness of non-formal education principles and - Empower through implementing training which has more impact and relevant to participants. Link with Erasmus + Priority Through implementing training courses which have more impact and relevant to participants. This project addressed the Erasmus+ priority by equipping youth workers with competences and methods for their professional development, including for digital youth work, needed for transferring the common fundamental values of our society.
