The overall objective of the project is: Living policy piece on 21st century skills as part of a strong internationalization profile for students of Baken Park Lyceum who live at or below the poverty line. First, through online project weeks that culminate in physical mobility, we will gain experience of how host organizations teach the target group 21st century skills in their internationalization curriculum. Each mobility is centered on a 21st century skill. After each physical project week, what is learned upon return is incorporated into the policy document and then incorporated into the internationalization curriculum per learning level. This is how the assignments students receive at our school are upgraded. We call it a living policy document because we monitor the curriculum after implementation by annually redefining the assignments in the internationalization curriculum.
We started an internationalization profile as a school in 2010. Since then we have developed activities for each grade and level (mavo, havo and atheneum). We want to expose our students to other cultures and strengthen their international and intercultural competencies. Our focus here is the 21st century skills of the students. With us in the policy, the following definition is used: ICT basic skills; media literacy; collaboration; problem solving and social & cultural skills. We notice that part of our pupils do not benefit from our assignments, namely the pupils from families at or below the poverty line. We do not sufficiently connect to their world and reach them less. Through this project we want to learn from four host partners how they serve this target group with their internatinalization education based on 21st century skills.
