Most importantly we would like as many students and staff, as possible, to experience mobility abroad. The impact for students is life changing and can only be described as very positive for the majority of the participants. This is confirmed when we read the participant survey forms. The new HZ-mission is to ‘Contribute to a better world’. The aim is to achieve this by educating professionals for a world in transition, becoming a valued institute in the area of water, energy, and vitality, being the partner for social missions in our region and to be a vibrant community for all parties. The Erasmus+ programme contributes to this. In this globalizing world, where actions at one end of the world influence places elsewhere in the world, we all need to work together to achieve this greater goal. Students can learn new perspectives from other cultures and countries regarding the above subjects. They learn new things and insights during their stay abroad and apply these in the Zeeland region or, in the case of foreign students, apply these in the home country. By literally broadening their horizon, they get the chance to broaden their view on different aspects of life, Europe and the rest of the world. Seeing with their own eyes the challenges that people of other cultures may be confronted with, will lead to intrinsic motivation to really contribute to a better world. The knowledge they gained during their life and education in the home and host country, can later on be implemented it in their personal and professional life. Our continuous aim is still that 30% of our graduates had some form of international experience. The majority of the HZ-students population finds its origin in the Province of Zeeland. Especially for this group of students, who still live at home, it is of importance that they can have an experience abroad in order to become citizens of the world. Students don’t have the possibility to participate in a mobility abroad for a longer period can take part in IaH: such as an international week organized by our Education-department and intercultural interdisciplinary projects such as the Student Company or ‘The Garage’ where students work on assignments from local companies and organisations . In the near future a BIP/ or short-term mobility could fit some part of our student population better. Also there are project abroad weeks in which students visit companies and HEI's. Participating in an experience abroad greatly contributes to their personal development. This goes for HZ-staff too. As an international-oriented university, and as a part of internationalization at home, HZ is attracting more international teachers. Right now nearly about 9% of the faculty is from abroad, 60 to be precise of which 35 have the European nationality.
