Internationalization is an essential part of UU strategy because it equips students and staff with the competencies needed for the future in our increasingly globalized society. We believe that an international environment promotes a stimulating academic and intellectual climate, an open attitude among staff and students and the expansion of scientific knowledge; KA131 is a very relevant instrument in our internationalization strategy. ECHE principles help us provide all service and guidance for international students and staff. Outgoing students gain international learning experience during their mobility, and local students obtain international experience in the international classroom which incoming students help to create. Staff gain new knowledge, skills and best practices during both teaching or training mobility, which they can share with colleagues and students. They will be better equipped to teach or support incoming international students as their intercultural awareness increased during the mobility. As we had a lot of budget in call 2021, we applied for only a small amount in call 2022. We were hoping this would allow us to avoid having mobilities on different calls with different rules during an academic year, as this not only complicates our administration, but it can also be confusing for students and staff members participating in the programme. We find clear communication about the rules and grant amounts to our participants extremely important. If we change the rules half way through an academic year, then participants will already have received different information previously. Students will start comparing their information and grant amounts with other students which will lead to misunderstandings. We therefore really don’t want to put students on a different call half way an academic year. We have therefore mainly used this call for Traineeships that took place in 2022-2023 and grants for partcipation in 2 BIPs, Importantly, we also wanted to use this call for incoming students from Ukraine, to help students severely affected by the war in their country. We wanted to help them continue with studying while their own universities were closed or only able to offer courses online. We have received students in 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 on this call.
