The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS) aimed to ensure that all students developed international and intercultural competencies as part of becoming global citizens, in line with its policy document Global Citizens in a Learning Society. Every programme was expected to identify the relevant international competencies within its field and to train staff accordingly. Cooperation with the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA) was intended to strengthen intercultural competence for students and staff, enrich curricula, and foster the exchange of perspectives on European and global issues. Collaboration with Accra Technical University (ATU) built on earlier cooperation in engineering and blockchain and was designed to extend to public management, social entrepreneurship, and not-for-profit management, linking with ATU’s ambition to establish a center of excellence. The project also sought to facilitate the development of COIL courses, broadening access to international learning opportunities, enabling students who could not travel to participate, and supporting innovation and knowledge exchange among teaching staff.
