Objectives

Through its education and research, HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht (HU) aims to make an important contribution to the challenges in society, including the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. The School of Journalism (SvJ), particularly, wants to reach out on topics of democracy, freedom and a well-informed civic society. We collaborate with partners to improve our journalism education and research, along lines of shared values and professional competencies and ethics. An overarching ambition of the project was to get active involvement and interaction between the two institutions, to strengthen the ties between HU and the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA), as a neighbouring East-country. The SvJ and the Caucasus School of Journalism and Media Management (CSJMM) are active members of the European Journalism Training Association (EJTA) that offers a platform for this collaboration through a European network and projects. In EJTA, SvJ and CSJMM cooperate since the start of the EUfactcheck-project in 2016, exchanging ideas and co-designing education. It is a shared wish to formalize this relationship and offer students and staff knowledge and skills in the field of international collaborative journalism.
