Caravan Via Egnatia objectives: • Improvement of Citizenship Education in schools in the Netherlands and North Macedonia (and potentially wider) • Promotion of common European values, civic engagement, inclusion, and participation. • Introduction of a 'Via Egnatia citizenship education game' (to sixty schools in the two countries). • Support teachers in the development of social and intercultural competences, critical thinking and opportunities for social and civic engagement through formal or non-formal learning activities.
The Via Egnatia Foundation and our North-Macedonian partner MCEC (Macedonian Civic Education Center) see the relevance of the Caravan Via Egnatia board game as a practical and playful learning tool for global citizenship education in both formal and informal learning settings in their countries, the Balkan region and the whole of Europe. The game fosters the development of social and intercultural competences and democratic values of young people. Also, the game raises awareness and understanding of our common (European) historical and cultural context, human values, the principles of unity and diversity, as well as our cultural identity. The cultural and historical heritage of the Via Egnatia road - with both its Roman, Christian and Ottoman history – creates awareness on human commonalities and differences. The game promotes cross-curricular collaboration in and between schools, using the innovative learning approach gaming and supports teachers on this learning approach.
