Objectives

This project encompassed the objectives we set out to contribute to in our application for the accreditation, overall contributing to our overarching goal of empowering young people and youth workers, fostering democratic engagement, and enhancing the capacity of our network. These objectives guided our efforts and provided a clear roadmap for the implementation of our events in Ommen, Prague, and Bratislava: Objective 1: Build Trainer Capacity One of our primary objectives was to enhance the capacity of debate trainers and coaches within our network. We aimed to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in their roles as educators and mentors. To achieve this, we organized a staff training event in Ommen, Netherlands, which brought together 29 coaches from 11 countries. The training covered a wide range of topics, including pedagogical theory, coaching ethics, conflict resolution, and effective feedback mechanisms. By strengthening the expertise of our trainers, we sought to improve the quality of debate education delivered to young people across our network. Objective 2: Expand Activities Supporting Democratic Participation Promoting democratic participation and trust in democratic institutions was one of the key objectives of the project. We aimed to provide young people with opportunities to engage in informed, respectful, and constructive debates on critical issues. The youth mobility event in Prague, Czechia, was a pivotal component of this objective. With 80 participants from 15 countries, we facilitated workshops that covered diverse topics such as international relations, economics, feminism, collaborative debate, and effective communication. These activities empowered young people to actively participate in democratic processes, contribute to informed discussions, and develop critical thinking skills. Objective 3: Strengthen Organizational Capacity The project also sought to strengthen the organizational capacity of our network members. We recognized the importance of equipping youth workers and organizational staff with the skills needed to effectively manage projects, engage in fundraising, and support capacity-building initiatives. In Bratislava, Slovakia, we hosted a knowledge and skill exchange seminar that brought together 40 participants from 15 countries. Through workshops spanning three tracks—debate and youth work, fundraising and project management, and capacity building—we enabled participants to design their curriculum. This capacity-building objective aimed to enhance the sustainability and impact of our network members' activities. Objective 4: Foster Cross-Cultural Exchange Cross-cultural exchange was an important aspect of our project. By bringing together participants from diverse cultural backgrounds, we aimed to promote understanding, tolerance, and intercultural dialogue. The events in Ommen, Prague, and Bratislava provided platforms for individuals from various countries to exchange experiences, perspectives, and ideas. This objective facilitated the creation of a global network of young people and educators who could collaborate, learn from one another, and contribute to a more interconnected world. Objective 5: Promote Inclusivity and Diversity Inclusivity and diversity were key to the project. We were committed to ensuring that the events were accessible to participants from various backgrounds and regions. By actively encouraging the involvement of underrepresented groups and countries, we created an inclusive environment that celebrated diversity. This objective was pivotal in fostering a rich and varied exchange of ideas and experiences, ultimately contributing to more comprehensive and well-rounded outcomes. Objective 6: Knowledge Sharing and Learning Knowledge sharing and learning were at the heart of our project. We aimed to create a dynamic platform where participants could share their insights, experiences, and best practices. By facilitating workshops, discussions, and collaborative activities, we encouraged mutual learning among educators, young people, and organizational staff. This objective was vital in promoting a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within our network, ensuring that each event served as an opportunity for collective growth and development. In summary, the project's objectives encompassed a holistic approach to capacity building, network strengthening, inclusivity, and knowledge sharing. These objectives were carefully designed to guide our efforts and align with our overarching mission of promoting democratic participation, critical thinking, and active citizenship among young people and educators. Through the implementation of these objectives, we aimed to create a lasting impact on our community and contribute to the broader goals of democracy and youth empowerment.
