Objectives

The issue of plastic waste recycling is widely discussed by EU under the framework of circular economy. As stated in "A European Strategy for Plastics in a Circular Economy" (EC, 2018), plastic waste pollution is strongly intertwined with individual attitudes and social behavior. Furthermore, it stresses the absence of "clear incentives" for the prompt shift to low waste consumption. One of the biggest issues facing Europe right now is how to balance cultural diversity with a political and economic union. More than ever, the survival of the European integration project appears to be threatened by cultural disparities that have been inflated by populist forces. Culture is not only seen to be a hindrance. Cultural diversity is seen as a valuable resource for society's advancement throughout Europe, particularly the encouragement of innovation and competitiveness. Through integrated and peer-to-peer learning approaches, the project aimed to uncover the environmental and social benefits of plastic waste recycling on different levels (communal, regional, etc.), expose the existing potential for local/rural initiatives in this field and provide roadmaps for the implementation of relevant activities. By the means of peer-to-peer learning, full engagement of participants in all stages of the project, implementation of their initiatives and ideas, cultural evenings and addressing the topics young people want to talk about, the project aimed to increase their cultural awareness, boost their sense of tolerance, initiative and leadership, break stereotypes and prejudice, and advance cultural diversity in EU and EaP countries. Overall, the "Cult(R)ural Sustainability" project sets the following objectives: -Creating a safe, informal learning environment, where participants can improve their awareness of issues related to plastic waste generation and the importance of reuse, reduce and recycling through peer-to-peer learning; -Stimulation of participants engagement in reaching the UN Sustainable Development Goals through clear definition of potential social-economic benefits; -Promote mutual understanding, tolerance, as well as a safe atmosphere where stereotypical thinking, prejudice, and discrimination may be challenged, thus boosting cultural awareness and expression; -Promotion of creative thinking among participants through practical sessions and dispose of their dormant potential; -To identify the competences that can be obtained through European non-formal learning projects and their certification by Youthpass; -To explore the possibilities of the Erasmus + program as a tool for cultural education and mobility.
