Objectives

Traditional games are a cultural heritage, born from old customs in the past, that somehow remained alive in modern civilization. Usually, these games were coming from rural areas, and it was passed down from generation to generation. Some of them were originally games for adults, and then through time, became games for youngsters. These lines are at this point, in our time, very blurry, since at that time, the borderline between Adult and Children's games was very difficult to find. When it comes to intercultural learning in non-formal education today, these traditional games can be utilized as a tool for the promotion of multiculturalism, and as a thread that binds all youngsters from different countries of Europe and different cultural backgrounds. These games could open new doors for cultivating links among youngsters no matter where they are from. This was an opportunity that through fun, we learned from one another, adopted new things, and developed new knowledge about others, who are different, but maybe not as different as we thought. By cherishing and accepting Diversity among us, we increased the tolerance and promotion of peace in our society. The significance of multicultural education is that it gives individuals the opportunity to examine their own social and cultural stereotypes and prejudices, break those down, and change their perspective within their own setting. This project idea was based on multiple activities, which has the capacity to give birth to such international and intercultural bonding; a Youth Exchange, which was gather youngsters from different parts of Europe, with the purpose to share their background and cultural treasure through DIALOGUE and INTERCULTURAL EXCHANGE, we were using TRADITIONAL GAMES as tools for promotion, all in order to make a little step forward towards understanding what culture, identity, and diversity. The main aim of this Youth Exchange was to help youngsters to acquire the knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to function effectively in a pluralistic democratic society and to interact, negotiate, and communicate with people from diverse groups, using elements from their cultural heritage as a tool. Objectives of this project were the following: - Awareness of cultural differences of participants, and of their own culture - Awareness of cultural differences within the same “national culture”, and belonging to several cultures - To point out the importance of cultural differences and to promote intercultural learning among participants with different cultural backgrounds and different traditions - To promote respect for the diversity of cultural expressions and raise awareness of their value at the local, national, and international levels; - To foster mutual understanding between young people in different countries - To develop solidarity and promote tolerance among young people, in particular in order to foster social cohesion in the European Union - To promote cultural awareness in participants and their intercultural learning process - To promote the use of traditional games as a tool to reinforce people's awareness of other cultures, promote intercultural dialogue and eliminate prejudice. - To create a brochure of all traditional games represented during this youth exchange - To promote youth mobilities under Erasmus+ programme.
