Objectives

The "Crossing the Borders" project aimed to give young people with fewer opportunities a chance to travel across Europe, discover new cultures, and grow as individuals. Our aim was to help young people to take the first step to travel, meet new people and experience new culture: Four out of the eight participants had never traveled outside their city or country before. Some came from very challenging situations like financial struggles, addicted to drugs or a lack of support at home or stay in special homes and institutions. With this project, we wanted to support them in crossing those barriers and experiencing something completely new. For example, some participants had never been on a train journey or traveled without their families before this trip. Personal Growth: We aimed to help them build confidence, learn new skills, and see that they could handle challenges. During the preparation and trip, participants had responsibilities plan the whole trip, find extra funding to make their travel more nice. So they organized small actions to collect fund for their trip. During the trip they had the responsibliites like planning small tasks, navigating a new city, or organizing group activities. This taught them independence and problem-solving. Learning About Other Cultures: We wanted them to meet people from different countries, learn about other ways of living, and open their eyes to European diversity. For instance, they experienced local traditions, food, and ways of life in the places they visited. The participants had several great talks with local people and visited youth centres in Munich and Milan. Becoming Future Leaders: We hoped this trip would inspire them to become role models in their own communities. By gaining confidence and learning how to work in a group, they could later help other young people with similar challenges. We are going to set them in as experts for the coming Discover EU project. Encouraging New Adventures: We wanted this project to be the first step for them to explore more opportunities, like volunteering abroad or joining other Erasmus+ programs in the future. By providing guidance and support, this project gave the participants a unique opportunity to grow, explore, and discover a new side of themselves and Europe. It wasn’t just about the trip—it was about building a brighter future for these young people.
