We are an indigenous higher education institution, that have Sámi students mainly from four countries, Norway, Sweden, Russia and Finland. We see that it has been difficult to get our students to travel on exchange, one of the reasons might be the close ties with their family and home community, one reason might be that they have already moved from their home country/place to come study with us, and one reason might be that they are not experienced in travelling, and moving to yet another place might seem scary, difficult and way out of their comfort zone. Even though our students are the same people, the area, community and country they come from differs alot from each other, and with this project we wanted our students to be able to experience not only staying abroad outside our region, but experiencing the regions where their class mates comes from. That is why our main goal with this project has been to get more of our teacher students to do their training in other countries, to experience the every day situation the Sámi people have in other parts of the region that we call Sápmi, which will give them a better understanding of other Sámi every day life and challenges, but also to see how much they have in common.
