Objectives

Participation in European projects concerning the mobility of school staff as well as the mobility of students themselves has always put the entire school community in a positive mood, motivating them to act on a larger scale. Training for teachers counteracts the phenomenon of professional burnout, which is why it was very important for us as teachers to look for inspiration among teachers from other cultural backgrounds and learn about new methods of work, especially those that promote sustainable development, "green lessons", wall-less classroom, learning outside the classroom or cultural heritage. In addition, the aim was to implement new solutions in the organization of outdoor lessons in both foreign languages and early childhood education, science, Kashubian language, geography, history, chemistry, etc. Our goal was also to introduce activating methods, with particular emphasis on the method of interdisciplinary projects using local cultural heritage. In order to meet the quality standards of the Erasmus programme, our priority was to develop key competences in students and to promote a comprehensive approach to teaching and learning foreign languages using innovative teaching methods.

Background

Our teachers participated in 5 mobilities and courses concerning outdoor education and cultural heritage. We are a small, community primary school with over 30 years of tradition. Due to limited space, our students spend most of their time in small classrooms and narrow halls. The priorities of our school, apart from learning, are the comprehensive development of students. We achieve our goal through innovative methods, digital tools and a variety of activities. The context and inspiration for the implementation of the project was the observation of a great negative impact of the remote education forced by the pandemic, the necessity to stay at home a lot due to quarantine or illness. Based on the literature on the subject and the available research results, among others in the field of children's mental health, we have noticed a great benefit in organizing the didactic process in the natural environment, activating students to peer contacts, learning in action and working by means of projects, experiments, and workshops conducted outside the classroom. Green Lessons are designed to take as many activities and lessons outside the classroom so that our students and staff can strengthen their mental health.
