Objectives

We wanted to raise awareness about the environmental problem the climate change amongst children and teenagers and to get them more informed about the details of the current global situation. Also, we wanted the project to be a form of research about new methods and forms of sustainable energy that will reduce pollution and will help protect the environment. The intercultural dialogue was also important for us, in order to teach the participants how every little action is relevant and has an impact on the environment and to develop critical thinking about the problem. We also wanted to initiate discussion about the need for sustainable long-term development sources of energy for future generations as replacements for the non-renewable ones. It was also very important to give our participants the opportunity to form their own opinions about climate change issues. Also, another objective of the project was to foster international cooperation among youth, improve their language and interpersonal skills.

Background

In today's fast-paced world, change happens quickly and frequently. It's crucial for schools to keep up with the changing times by adapting to the reality around them. To achieve this, our school prioritizes sustainable development goals and plans its actions accordingly. Lessons are designed to integrate various subjects, allowing students to see how different fields are interconnected. For instance, history lessons draw comparisons between past events and present situations, identifying causes and effects. Science lessons emphasize practical applications of knowledge and its relevance in real-life situations. Math is combined with financial management skills. Despite these efforts, young students have difficulty envisioning their future, and even adults struggle to predict what may happen in the next decade, let alone children. Educators continually strive to find better ways to help students understand the complex and holistic nature of the world. The context of our project was based on climate- change and tried to educate young people on how to implement changes in their environment on a micro-scale, so they can feel responsible but also have an impact on the reality they live in.
