Objectives

VI LO is a school committed to high standards of education and the comprehensive development of its students. In implementing the project, we aimed to achieve the highest European standards in teaching, fitting for a 21st-century school. We decided to incorporate the latest European advancements in foreign language teaching methodology and the most modern information and communication technology tools into the educational process. It was also important for us to strengthen the teaching of the civilization and cultural components in bilingual classes and international sections. By making education more attractive, we wanted to better motivate students to learn, especially foreign languages, and ensure equal educational opportunities for students with broadly understood special needs. This way, it was possible to ensure that students achieve the best possible results in the school leaving exam and other language exams and competitions. We also aimed to provide teachers with equal opportunities to enhance their skills regardless of economic and social conditions. Additionally, our goal was to develop international cooperation.

Background

VI LO is a UNESCO-associated school. For many years, it has specialized in teaching foreign languages (English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Russian). It runs bilingual classes with English and Spanish, preparing students for the bilingual level foreign language Matura exam. In these classes, extended subjects are taught in foreign languages, which allows students to prepare for the Matura exam in those subjects in a foreign language. We also prepare students for language exams (DSD II, Selectividad). We have many years of experience in organizing international exchanges and foreign trips for youth. In June 2021, VI LO became the first municipal high school in Krakow to join the International Baccalaureate organization, and for the past two years, we have been announcing enrollment in the first grades of international departments. As part of the project, in order to improve their competencies and the quality of the School's work, foreign language teachers participated in methodological training in foreign language teaching methods, including cultural elements, and information and communication technology, while the School Principal took an intensive English language course.
