Objectives

We wanted to train 12 general education teachers in the idea of sustainable development. We wanted to gain knowledge about the assumptions of sustainable development, ecology, a healthy lifestyle, new ecological trends and pass it on to young people in the educational process, because we believe that it is young people who can, thanks to their awareness, change the habits of future generations, which will consequently heal our ecosystem. Teachers had to delve into the topics of ecology, healthy lifestyle, fair trade, economic economy, European Green Deal and sustainable business to become local experts and be able to spread the acquired knowledge and change not only our school, but also the lives of their families and the entire community, to which they will try to reach through all possible channels and means. Changing public awareness is the priority of the current ecological situation and we wanted it to stop being downplayed. We wanted to change the way of thinking and lifestyle among generations, looking for solutions that help stop the total degradation of the natural environment. Additionally, we wanted to draw attention to maintaining mental health after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background

The project consisted in educating the staff in the field of sustainable development, because based on a survey conducted among teachers, it turned out that the knowledge of our staff in the field of broadly understood ecology is very poor and limited. However, realizing what a key problem our planet is, we decided to apply for training that would allow us to train staff who, thanks to the acquired knowledge and skills, would pass this information on to students, teachers and the local community. The Board of Schools Agricultural Centre of Permanent Education, although it is a rural school, combines 60 years of experience of highly qualified staff with an innovative view of the teaching and learning process, thanks to which our school is very popular among primary school graduates. We educate students in many fields and the school participates in various types of projects to ensure that the learning process is at a high level. We try to educate our staff at a European level. Recently, it has shown how important issues related to ecology, sustainable development and a healthy lifestyle are. Therefore, it was extremely important to educate teachers on these issues.
