The main objective of the project was to familiarize 40 young people with the culture of other European nationalities and the cultural heritage of the countries they come from. The project participants indicated culture as an extremely important area that surrounds each of us in everyday life, especially in aspects such as the language we use to communicate on a daily basis, cuisine and national dishes, art, architecture, history, and cultural traditions and customs. Expanding knowledge about the culture of one's country and cultural heritage is of great importance for deepening the sense of belonging to the European community, and thus respecting its values. It is also very important for young people to learn about and broaden their knowledge about the cultures and traditions of other countries with which we form a community. It is also related to the fact that nowadays many young people decide to study abroad, often go to another country for professional purposes or decide on short, recreational trips abroad for tourist purposes. In each of these cases, knowing other cultures and knowing about the traditions and customs of the place is very important. Another extremely important issue is that thanks to getting to know and learning new cultures, we begin to understand them on a religious, national, linguistic and ethnic background, which affects the development of a sense of tolerance and respect for other people, the promotion of these values among the society and the arrival of harmful stereotypes. Project participants, as young people, open to the world and entering adulthood, indicated the study of cultures as one of their main needs, describing it as a field that has been neglected and severely hindered in recent years, which was one of the main reasons for the COVID pandemic. Widespread lockdowns, closing or introducing a limit of people in cultural centers such as theatres, cinemas, museums, operas, cancellation of cultural events, which lasted for many months, made it very difficult for young people to gain new knowledge and experience about other cultures and to cultivate knowledge about their own cultural heritage. From day to day, going out to restaurants serving national dishes of other countries became impossible, and people stopped traveling for fear of infection or constantly changing quarantine rules, and there is no better and more effective method to get to know new cultures and gain new experiences than direct contact with new people and places. In addition, the vast majority of schools and universities have switched to remote learning, with much worse results, according to many studies. Another reason why the desire to learn and get to know other cultures has decreased is the lack of time among young people. Everyday life, in which busy young people often have to reconcile study, work, home and other responsibilities, makes it hard for many young people to find time to go to the theatre, cinema or museum. All these factors translated into the fact that learning and getting to know other cultures has become very difficult and people do not attach as much importance to it as before. The aim of the project was to give participants the opportunity to acquire new knowledge about other cultures, which was thus a response to their needs. Young people wanted to learn more about traditions, history, art, cuisine and cultural customs of other countries, as well as to share knowledge about the culture of their country with others. Another goal indicated by the participants was to spread attitudes of tolerance and understanding for other nationalities among the society and to encourage other people to promote these values and pass them on. The implementation of the international project, in which 40 young people from 5 countries of different culture, history and religion took part, such as: Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey, and the carefully planned course of activities certainly contributed to gaining these purposes. The participants of the project got to know new cultures in the field of history, art, religion, cuisine and customs. During the youth exchange, they discussed cultural similarities and differences, shared their experiences and focused together on finding the most effective methods to combat prejudices and stereotypes and spread tolerance and understanding among other people. Young people also improved their language and social competences, they also gained new digital skills. The completed project was a success and the participants of the project established new and lasting friendships
