Objectives

The project "Volunteering Beyond Borders - Second edition" was a continuation of a youth mobility initiative that started in Poland in 2022. The primary goal of this follow-up edition was to increase and transfer knowledge to younger generations. It brought together a group of younger students, focusing on the theme of rural development and volunteering within rural areas to facilitate such development. The project's objective was to explore the advantages gained from volunteering and how volunteering could contribute to achieving one of the 11 European Youth Goals for the 2019-2027 period: advancing rural youth. The importance of involving peers from rural areas, particularly younger generations who often have limited opportunities for travel, interaction, and mutual learning, was strongly emphasized by the young participants. Through this project, both the participants and the organizations aimed to increase local rural activities, improve the social lives of young individuals, and deliver educational programs that put light on rural development and rural volunteering. Beyond its broader impact, volunteering also held personal satisfaction. Volunteers established networks, gained a sense of accomplishment, bolstered self-esteem, and experienced substantial personal and professional growth. The project's objectives included achievement of several key results: - Engaging young individuals aged 14-17 from rural backgrounds, broadening their understanding of rural development, and fostering discussions on this topic as a foundation for sustainable growth on a global scale; - Facilitating the exchange of innovative practices among rural youth from different countries, encompassing themes such as youth entrepreneurship, rural-urban linkages, communication, and digitization; - Implementing local volunteering initiatives within the host city, such as reconstructing a children's playground, planting trees, cleaning actions; thereby promoting rural voluntarism and volunteerism while advancing participants' personal and professional development; - Providing a platform for participants to engage in workshops, discuss, and recognize the value of volunteering work, sharing best practices from our countries, and improving the skills to identify and recognize volunteering opportunities at local, national, and international levels. - Developing two engaging educational online quizzes centred on volunteering activities and rural contexts, designed to inspire other young individuals to participate in similar projects; - Creating and launching a dynamic social media campaign comprising five short videos that underscored the significance of volunteering in rural settings, alongside 15 posters featuring messages promoting rural volunteering; - Promoting cultural diversity in Europe and fostering intercultural understanding among youths from diverse social, cultural, and religious backgrounds. The youth mobility allowed young participants the opportunity to organize local events in the hosting community and make an impact, exchange insights, and identify opportunities for advancing their own rural communities after the project. It provided a platform for acknowledging rural volunteering. The project motivated participants to develop fun educational quizzes centred on volunteering and rural development, and enhanced their IT skills through the creation of a multimedia campaign consisting of 5 tik-tok videos and 15 posters. The campaign aimed at increasing awareness regarding the benefits of rural development and volunteering. Throughout the project's duration, participants actively engaged in various activities that fostered the development of vital social skills. These activities boosted their self-confidence, self-esteem, and overall life satisfaction. Furthermore, participants practiced teamwork, presentation skills, public speaking, problem-solving, and creative skills. All project activities promoted tolerance, respect, social cohesion, and inclusion.
