Objectives

Thanks to Greta Thunberg, a 15-year-old student from Sweden, who captured the attention of the world when she criticized climate change negotiators at a United Nations climate summit in Poland in 2018. She inspired thousands of young people around the world to walk out of their schools on Fridays to demand that adults take more action to protect their futures and those of future generations. She decided to walk out of her own school in Sweden by herself. No one joined her the first day. Then, she continued, inspiring thousands. Like many young people, we were also affected by her speech, which emerged due to the ignorance of adults. We believed that it was mandatory to start by making people aware of how their actions impact the Earth. So, we came together to act. We could still prevent the worst impacts of climate change and build a safer future for all. Taking this important issue into consideration, we - young people from five different countries - came together and developed this project. The main goal of our project was to raise awareness among young people (between the ages of 16 and 25) about climate change and its impacts by understanding the risks and learning how to avoid them. Our project objectives mainly focused on: Raising awareness about climate change and its impacts. Becoming more climate literate by expanding knowledge about climate change (e.g., its causes and consequences). Gaining skills to act against climate change and contribute to climate solutions. Gaining skills enabling the group to pass on the ideas comprehended during the project - developing communication methods and facilitating interactive ways of absorbing knowledge through youth-friendly activities. Being engaged in challenging, yet entertaining climate-based activities in a youth exchange with young people from other European countries. The Erasmus Programme aimed to support, across all sectors, awareness-raising about environmental and climate change challenges. Therefore, this project gave priority to the environment and the fight against climate change by developing the competencies of youth to become true agents of change.
