Objectives

The topic we tackled in this project was the rampant violence on the internet. Thanks to the project, we learned more about the types of violence on the internet and how to avoid and combat it on a daily basis. We learned about research in this area. We are hearing more and more about cases of young people committing suicide after being subjected to online bullying. Often this starts very innocently with posting pictures of a person, to public ridicule and criticism in online forums. This is how hegemony occurs, leading to the exclusion of young people from peer groups. Seeing this problem, we wanted to counteract it in some way. We increased our knowledge in this area and reflected on the problem together during the Exchange. Working on the topic in an international group allowed us to compare behaviour in our country and in Latvia. This gave us a broader picture of the situation, which allowed us to develop better solutions. The aim of our project was to make ourselves and our peers aware of the importance of noticing the problem of hegemony on the internet nowadays. The specific objectives were therefore: - to identify types of threats on the internet in both countries; - to learn about modern measures to prevent inappropriate behaviour; - to develop their own methods of building attitudes aimed at combating online violence among young people; - developing materials to educate young people on the subject of cyber-hate and encourage positive actions to build mutual understanding. - Developing intercultural cooperation; - breaking down intercultural barriers - learning about Latvian and Polish traditions, culture and attitudes; - bridging cultural differences between our countries; - developing respect for other cultures - breaking down language barriers - developing conversational, argumentation and presentation skills in English. Since we, the students, were in charge of the activities, we established that our goal was also our personal development in terms of self-reliance, entrepreneurship and language skills. Since we also settled the finances ourselves and arranged accommodation, food etc., we developed our mathematical and organisational competences.
