Objectives

By conducting our project the youth wanted to increase the awareness and understanding of risks and threats, as well as, benefits and opportunities related to the advances and broader adoption of metaverse, and other applications of blockchain technologies, and, in particular, non-fungible tokens (NFT). These technologies are widely considered to be a new more advanced version of the internet and are frequently referred to as Web 3.0. Web 3.0 technologies, according to many experts, will be to a greater extent controlled by individuals and not global tech behemoths (e.g.: Alphabet, Meta, Apple, Amazon) which control Web 2.0 applications. In 2021, when Facebook renamed itself to Meta, the popularity of metaverse implementations, as well as other applications of blockchain such as NFT (non-fungible tokens) grew significantly. Consequently, many experts and people familiar with those technologies started to ponder on the risks and benefits related to them. We have invited to our project youth that is familiar with blockchain technologies and was actively engaged in the preparation of workshops in accordance with our agreements, thereby contributing positively to the quality of project, its results and drove the engagement of the whole group in the workshops. In particular, we invited youngsters that are big fans of Bitcoin, IT students, but also youth that has more artistically focused interests and skills. These young people are highly interested in the subject of our project, and thanks to its diverse background and interests, they look at the metaverse technologies from different perspectives. The diversity of participants was of particular importance considering the subject of our project, that on the one hand involved the identification of risks and threats of metaverse and NFT, and, on the other hand, concerns the identification of benefits and opportunities that these technologies entail. By participating in fully engaging and immersive workshops, that were designed, prepared and conducted by youth themselves, participants gained and/or enhanced their skills related to metaverse implementations on both centralized and decentralized platforms, IT tools for infographic design, mind mapping, and film editing. In addition, by gaining practical skills in creating NFTs, youth was able to participate in the emerging market related to innovative applications of blockchain technologies. These skills are sought after by the participants of our project and will be valuable for them both professionally and in regards to their passions and interests. By using and promoting lifelong learning with the use of non-formal education techniques and tools, our project supports innovation and creativity, promotes active citizenship, and labor participation, thereby realizing the goals of Erasmus+.
