To meet the interests and initiative of young people, we based the project to a large extent on practical activities and non-formal learning methods, which, according to the young people, provide unusual opportunities to combine knowledge of the past, respect for past people and their lives, culture, values that are no longer valid, tolerance, openness to otherness (religious or philosophical) - in a word, the acquisition of European values, while improving individual skills through practical activities in accordance with the direction of education. The idea is the brainchild of OHP participants doing day-to-day vocational training as photographers, carpenters and bricklayers. The joint implementation of the project by Polish and Ukrainian young people, carried out symmetrically, consisted of cleaning up and recovering, or even bringing back to life, parish cemeteries. Small forgotten places where no one celebrates anniversaries or festivals. Together they built fencing elements (masons), erected new crosses (carpenters), and documented the whole thing (photographers), first on abandoned Polish cemeteries and then on Ukrainian ones in the Zamojszczyzna region. These activities, which allow young people to develop their passions within which they learn, were a pretext for non-formal learning. They became a space to get to know each other, different cultures, traditions, etc. To be open and tolerant towards them, to understand them and to establish understanding through the discovery of shared values. And finally, to the effect of a lasting reunion, which in the project was expressed by working together, learning together, sharing meals and accommodation. All this resulted in a lasting relationship, a kind of 'brotherhood of arms' among the participants. The project allowed young people from difficult backgrounds, often socially and economically excluded, to step out of their comfort zone and open up to new situations. This enabled them to assimilate European values of solidarity and tolerance towards others hitherto "alien" to their environment.
