Objectives

The aim of implementing the "Mental Health Key Resources for Youth" project was to address the formidable challenges that young people face during their transition into adulthood. This critical period poses risks to their mental health due to various factors such as physical changes, identity exploration, and societal, familial, academic, and peer pressures. Recognizing the potential impact on self-esteem, emotional well-being, and overall personal and professional development, the project aimed to tackle issues like anxiety, addictions, eating disorders, self-harm, and depression, which have been identified by the World Health Organization as major concerns affecting young people in Europe, contributing to a significant number of deaths among those aged 10-19. Moreover, the project acknowledged the amplified stress on youth mental health caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, marked by restrictions and lockdowns, prompting an urgent need for targeted support and awareness. In response to these challenges, the collaborating entities united to create the project, seeking to reach a broad audience of young individuals and raise societal awareness regarding the significance of addressing mental health matters. The "Mental Health Key Resources for Youth" project encompassed eight fundamental areas impacting young people's mental health. These included the transition to adulthood and oppressions, addictions, emotional management, social relationships, sports, cultural heritage and sense of belonging, self-confidence, and active citizenship. The specific objectives of the project were threefold: Equipping Youth Workers: Provide tools to youth workers associated with the partner entities, enabling them to establish secure and health-promoting spaces for young individuals in their daily interactions. Enhancing Youth Workers' Skills: Empower youth workers with the skills necessary to activate the participation of young people in society and Europe, fostering a sense of engagement and inclusion. Building International Partnerships: Establish a robust and enduring international partnership among the collaborating entities, facilitating collaboration for the development of future initiatives under the Erasmus + framework. In summary, the project aimed to make a meaningful impact on the mental health of young people by addressing the multifaceted challenges they face during the transition to adulthood and by providing resources and support through targeted initiatives carried out by equipped and skilled youth workers.
