By organising a networking and community building event ”Nature based Communities and Craftsmanship,” we aimed to achieve common goals within our partnership based on the most important needs we identified when initiating the project idea. Some examples of needs that were identified at the preparatory stages, were to: -create opportunities for our organisations and youth workers to spend time in rural, natural environments; -network between other green organisations that are active in nature education; -showcase and share nature based practices and expertise within the partnership; -experience, practice, work hands-on, learn and gain competences in nature education related topics such as hand crafts, natural cosmetics, herbalism, wild cooking etc.; -develop high quality learning and networking opportunities for youth workers. WICI had one additional aim with the implementation of the community building event, namely to share expert knowledge and their skills in crafts, as well as with plants, wild cooking and with sustainability and upcycling of resources. As a partnership we aimed at inspiring each other, representatives, partners, youth workers and our networks and to create valuable connections between the members of our newly established community. This to encourage us to continue working on the topic of nature education, further collaborations, to support and deepen processes of green networking and the community building we started together. As our last achievement, it is important to mention part of the project design which has been based on transferring methods and good practices between participants and partners. During the implementation of the community building event, we have experienced, further tested and developed our methods together of which we have 20 already documented by participants during the activity of which we selected 15 methods that are being edited and finalised. Examples of topics of these methods are: embroidery, linocut, natural weaving, making incense from dried herbs, natural cosmetics such as scrubs etc. The main project idea was designed to answer the partnerships’ needs and consisted of four main pillars of: 1. Community Building - a process of strengthening relations and connections within (groups) of youth workers, their local communities and nature. Building a transnational community of youth workers; 2. Nature Exploration - a process of experiencing and spending time in nature while developing a deeper connection with nature, supporting regeneration, rewilding and exploring nature's potential; 3. Natural Crafts - a process of gaining knowledge and experience in crafts, handcrafts and “DIY - Do it Yourself” and “Hands-on” activities, using natural elements; 4. The Future - a process of exploring further green networking, community building options and project development within our partnership, between youth workers, partner representatives and actors of the partnerships’ local communities. After the implementation of the community building event, participants and partner representatives from different participating organisations have already had several visits and meetings to explore future collaboration. WICI is in the process of developing a spin-off project building further on the achievements of ”Nature based Communities and Craftsmanship,” together with participants from Croatia and Slovenia. At the stage of writing the final report in December 2023 it is our intention to further evaluate together, develop and deepen our ideas and seek Erasmus+ funding and local funding in 2024. The objectives of “Nature based Communities and Craftsmanship” from the perspective of youth work practice were to: -provide quality green networking and community building opportunities among organisations working in the field of youth; -provide opportunities to experience nature and reconnect to old culture and crafts; -showcase good practises and advance education as well as exchange ideas, tools and methods in nature based youth work; -act towards preventing burnout of youth workers by introducing them to “the regenerative power of nature”; -present handcrafts as an attractive tool of working with the local community, including young people and reminding/introducing rituals and practices based on wisdom of native cultures and our ancestors to the youth workers and indirectly - youth; -rebuild strong connections between human beings and nature based on trust, understanding etc. and transferring this knowledge, approach and experience to young people -cultivate practical skills and attitudes allowing youth workers to take direct action; -inspire, encourage and raise innovative practises in youth work; -increase capacities of the applicant organisation - Association for the Promotion of Old Crafts and Culture “WICI” in creation and implementation of transnational projects in the framework of the Erasmus+ programme.
