Objectives

The project ‘Open Yourself!’ was an initiative of the OHP staff itself and the staff of the Olena Pchilka Lyceum of Kovel, who have already had the opportunity to work together in the framework of PURWM in 2021. Although the staff of both organisations are experienced and competent, they are constantly striving to develop. The Polish and Ukrainian organisations involved in the project signalled difficulties in overcoming internal barriers when working with young people and difficulties in bridging the gap between generations. At the same time, project participants wanted to learn a method, a way, a ‘know how’, to break this impasse. They are open to new, innovative methods of youth work. In addition, a significant percentage of the young people that all participating organisations work with are socially, economically and culturally excluded, which poses an additional challenge. Each of the three participating organisations work on the basis of their own distinct patterns, which resulted in synergies during the project. Given the shape and nature of youth work, it is essential to continually retrain and open up to young people and their needs. Through drama activities combined with the development of soft skills, the project aimed to break down internal barriers. which made it possible to shorten distances and establish better relationships in youth work. Each participating organisation added value to the project by actively creating the workshops and actively participating at each stage. The ‘Open Up!’ project comprised two mobilities of 8 days each (including two days of travel). The participants were educators, day care workers, pedagogues and instructors working with young people. Each of the participating organisations added value by transferring their working methods. The first of the mobilities in Malta entitled ‘Autumn academy of non-formal education - by drama closer to the Youth’ consisted of drama activities (non-artistic performances) as a platform for the development of soft competences and for shortening distances, breaking down barriers and mutual learning between the participants. They have had the effect of shortening the distance between the staff and the young people they work with. Increased awareness of the diversity of youth workers and working methods. The second mobility in Poland, entitled ‘Spring academy in Poland - soft skills and digital revolution’, aimed, by means of workshops developing soft skills, to build a personalised approach and networking and community building among youth workers, in addition to raising knowledge related to the aims and values of the EU. In addition, this mobility also included a workshop on improving digital knowledge of youth work applications. The activities, which were non-formal education, consisted of activating participants in a field that was new to them. In addition, the development of linguistic competences cannot be underestimated (three of the participants in the Ukrainian group are English teachers). Through creativity and overcoming limitations such as embarrassment or cultural barriers, they contributed to improving the model of youth work in the future. The project also ‘lives on’ after the formal end of its duration through the implementation of the acquired competences and further cooperation between the participating organisations in the form of online meetings. In addition, it is promoted through a video-report of the mobility made by the participants themselves, which is recorded and made available online (and therefore environmentally friendly). By implementing the new methods of youth work developed during the project, the project has achieved sustainability. It also has a significant impact on the local environment, which will be leveraged through the activation and inclusion of young people. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCGg0VS1eFw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aU0nUS2wX_o&t=17s https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100092984423309 https://www.facebook.com/LubelskaWojewodzkaKomendaOHP/posts/pfbid0jvxHEJFfZSmyKcNWRSmxuma8U3r5V4FctKCSP1hDwpLmkor37GcrV9MDomPn3URQl?locale=pl_PL https://www.facebook.com/LubelskaWojewodzkaKomendaOHP/posts/pfbid08f7y9ioaQzEqhvn7mtEFnxD4P2rYdsR6Rm99MNoRTpp94SVC9se5HrLH4fpb31NZl?locale=pl_PL
