Objectives

The process of applying for jobs can be demotivating for young people who do not understand what employers are looking for. Employers get frustrated that young people present poorly or quit their jobs easily. Young people don’t understand progression opportunities which can demotivate them, while employers are waiting to see motivation before they discuss progression and development. We often hear that young people want to work for organizations/brands that have a positive impact on the world, and importantly offer great training and development opportunities. Young people do their research and are put off when they see mixed messages. It is really important, therefore, to understand what makes young people engage. Employers and young people recognize they need to change, but feel they lack the information and support to do so. All the organizations participating in the project "Youth Friendly Employer" work with and for youth, and we seek for constant improvement of our professional skills and competences linked to our work. While brainstorming on the ways for improvement regarding the topic of youth employment and challenges to keep young people interested in regular jobs, we decided to take concrete steps and organize the training for members of interested organizations who hire young people, to figure out the ways of overcoming the problem of generational differences between employers and employees, and to develop a strategy to make the whole process of recruitment and employment more friendly for young people who apply for jobs in youth organizations, young enterprises, etc. The aim of this project is to challenge the participating youth workers, who face these challenges while recruiting young people in their NGOs, to understand the differences between young people's and employers' expectations of work readiness, and the impact of these differences on youth under-employment. After identifying above challenges, we realized that we need to organize a training that will help us reach the following objectives: 1) To reflect on the problem of lack of long-term interest of young people in casual job contracts; to understand generational differences and the trends affecting youth employment; 2) To develop a strategy at each stage of employment progress: preparation for work, getting to work, development on work and progress at work; 3) To develop innovative practices and methods, such as the inclusion of digital youth recruitment and employment activities, which aim to increase the interest and involvement of young people in activities for the benefit of the employer; 4) To increase the professional competences of youth workers in order to improve the employment performance towards young people who want to enter the labor market. The above goals link to the objective of Key Action 1 by improving competences linked to the professional profiles of our participants, providing better quality of their work in favor of young people, and increasing motivation and satisfaction in their daily work. It meets the objectives of Erasmus+ program by combating youth unemployment, by tackling the challenges of this issue that we face at our organizations, while hiring young people. By providing this educational opportunity for youth workers and encouraging them to support other youth workers in improving their professional competences, we contribute to meeting the Erasmus+ overall objectives of the renewed framework for European cooperation in the youth field. What is more, working on this project together will reinforce the cooperation with our partner organizations and let us make an impact on international scale. The applicant organization will experience Erasmus+ project implementation with the support of the experienced partner organizations, and will feel more confident to prepare more Erasmus+ projects in the future.
