Objectives

We wanted to increase students' involvement in school life stimulate pro-social attitudes, develop a sense of responsibility, ability to work in a team, and promote themselves and their school using joint activities. We have made an attempt to develop students' competences not only in taking care of their physical and psychosocial health, but we also tried to develop skills that are necessary in fulfilling social roles or performing various professional duties in the future. Project activities contributed to the development of a strategy for promoting health education in local communities. Creating a lasting partnership between schools from Italy and Poland by sharing experiences in eliminating negative stimuli affecting young people, especially during the pandemic.

Background

The main social problem that we have already noticed in our school is the mental condition of children and adolescents before the pandemic. However, the events in recent years have highlighted these difficulties even more. In both schools, teachers reported a decrease in the level of physical activity and an increase in disturbances in student-student and student-teacher relationships. It has been observed that some students isolate themselves, appear apathetic, and show no interest in events in school environments. In our opinion, this was an emergency situation in which the role of the teacher as an educator and advisor to children and young people is particularly important. Moreover, both schools are located in regions characterized by a high unemployment rate with no prospects for harmonious development. Sports education in this project had primarily an educational function. It supported not only physical but also mental, intellectual and social development
