Inclusion for PWID in education, but also a regular life is very important for us. As we wrote before, PWID are the most discriminated group in the EU. This is why we have incorporated innovative tools and placed PWID at the centre of the intellectual output (IO) creation process—an approach that promotes inclusion. The process of creating stories, graphics, choosing topics, making music and making decisions in a democratic way by voting was the key. It gives PWID the right to decide that they are missing in regular life. Also, the tools were designed for the staff to show them that PWID can produce interesting and innovative educational tools. We also wanted to create an attractive tool for PWID and staff so they can speak/organise workshops about the topic that was important for authors. We believe that creating a multimedia e-book and printed book is a new, innovative way to do so.
People with Intellectual Disabilities (PWID) are still a group of people who are most excluded in the EU, which is a big challenge for nowadays society. Improving the way of integration but also empowering PWID in their daily life, that's a task for our project. We can see that in organisations that support PWID sometimes staff are missing their motivation and need to support PWID in the most effective way. We think that sometimes it's more important to change the mentality of staff than to focus on PWID. Of course, that's a long process, and through this project, we want to create a tool that will be helpful for PWID and staff. All three partners have different experiences in working with PWID, but in different areas (education, culture and work), and we have much to learn from each other. Our mission is a world where all people (including PWID) will have the possibility to express their opinions and also to be able to share their knowledge with others by being in leading positions. The project is also innovative for PWID and staff. PWID does not often have a situation where they are the main actor in social life. This is why they are more passive in normal activities. This project gives them a chance to be creative.
