The main objective of the project was to conceptualize, test, and disseminate, over the three years of its implementation, the MEMA method for teaching mathematics and programming at the early education level. The specific objectives included: - developing the conceptual framework of the MEMA method – available in four languages (English, Polish, Croatian, and Turkish); - developing a teacher’s handbook (in four language versions); - developing a student’s handbook (in four language versions); - developing 50 lesson plans based on the MEMA method (in four language versions).
The CybeMEMA project was a response to clearly identified needs of primary education teachers and pupils in the partner countries. The needs included: - the necessity to apply a method in early education to facilitate and encourage children to learn mathematics and programming; - increasing teachers’ motivation to use modern teaching tools at the stage when children begin their formal education; - the search for teaching methods supporting understanding of cause-and-effect and algorithmic thinking; - the need to introduce new teaching methods that make mathematics and STEM education easier and more effective. During the project implementation, the initial indications confirming the effectiveness of the MEMA method in teaching programming and mathematics were validated. MEMA proved to be an innovative tool for working with children in early education. The project addressed the needs by developing, testing, and disseminating the MEMA method – an innovative tool supporting the teaching of STEM subjects. As part of the project, a comprehensive report describing the method was produced, along with four textbooks for teachers and pupils (grades 1–4), 53 lesson plans, and a website providing access to all the above materials.
