Objectives

Our primary goal was to empower smallholder farmers across Europe by providing them with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to adopt more sustainable and regenerative farming practices that not only protect natural resources but also contribute to their long-term economic well-being. By doing so, we sought to address the pressing challenges they face, including limited access to education, low technological skills, and the increasing impacts of climate change. Another important goal was to support VET providers in expanding their green training initiatives. The project aligned with key EU strategies ensuring that sustainability-focused education became more widely available in rural areas. Beyond supporting farmers directly, another major objective was to increase the level of lifelong learning among smallholders. Through structured educational programs, we aimed to bridge this gap and foster continuous professional development in the agricultural sector. By implementing this project, we worked towards strengthening smallholders' resilience, improving their economic stability, and promoting a more sustainable and interconnected agricultural system across Europe.

Background

We applied for this project because we recognize the significant challenges that small farmers across Europe face, particularly in terms of education, technological skills, and adaptation to climate change. The agricultural sector is under increasing pressure to balance economic viability with environmental sustainability, yet many smallholders lack the necessary resources and training to meet these demands effectively. Through this project, we aim to address key needs identified in various countries, such as the limited access to agricultural education, the need for better integration of agroecological principles, and the importance of strengthening connections between producers and consumers. By providing smallholders with targeted training and support, we seek to enhance their resilience, promote sustainable farming practices, and help them navigate the evolving agricultural landscape. Additionally, given the diverse challenges across different regions—from supporting organic farmers in Ireland, to bridging the knowledge gap on agroecology in Poland, and improving direct consumer-producer relationships in Italy—this project presents an opportunity to develop tailored educational solutions that align with local needs.
