The DECIDE project was initiated in response to the high youth unemployment rates in the EU, which stood at 2.546 million in January 2022. The COVID-19 crisis exacerbated this issue, leading to economic slowdowns and a shift towards sustainable and digital job markets. Young people, eager for change, often lack the tools and skills needed to adapt to these new expectations, such as green job profiles and digital competencies. The EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027 emphasizes 'inclusion,' 'integration,' and 'empowerment,' recognizing varied access to quality employment due to regional conditions. Many young people remain unaware of their need for reskilling to improve future job prospects. The pandemic's impact has led to social isolation, financial instability, and a lack of job opportunities, creating a "lock-down generation." The DECIDE project aims to provide youth with the necessary tools for self-evaluation and skill alignment, helping them to better understand their long-term potential and make informed career decisions. By focusing on these needs, DECIDE seeks to prevent youth stagnation and support them in becoming proactive in the evolving job market.
