With the implementation of this project, we aim to broaden our knowledge in the field of augmentative and alternative communication, both in terms of models and tools. We seek to understand both the advantages and disadvantages of each of these models and tools, with the goal of initially implementing a tool that meets our needs in our centre, and subsequently throughout the entire institution.
APPACDM is an institution that supports young people with intellectual disabilities, and many of these individuals face challenges in verbal communication. Many of our users did not have the opportunity to develop an augmentative and alternative communication method during childhood, whether in school or in any other context. Taking this limitation into account, we have decided to explore what is being done in other countries and analyse the feasibility of implementing one of the methods and tools used, or even a combination of elements that we consider relevant from the various systems we have studied.
