Objectives

To promote the mobility of the team that accompanies babies and children with deafness (0-6 years) in order to learn and innovate pedagogical and therapeutic practices; to promote mobility for non-formal learning - job shadowing to integrate innovative practices observed in similar institutions into their professional activity; to train teams to implement family-centred practices with babies and children with deafness from 0 to 6 years.

Background

This project was born in the Eugénio de Andrade School Group (AEEA), part of the Ministry of Education's public network, which is part of the national group of Reference Schools for the Bilingual Education of Deaf Students (EREBAS), established by the Directorate-General for Education. The institution provides an educational response to deaf and hearing children from pre-school to the end of the 3rd cycle of schooling. As an EREBAS, it provides a specialised response to deaf children and young people, aiming to implement an education model that guarantees linguistic growth, access to the curriculum and social inclusion, which implies constant sharing and reflection to guarantee the quality of practices. This project is centred on children of early intervention age, from 0 to 6 years old. At pre-school level, deaf children have the opportunity to attend a bilingual class with deaf and hearing peers. In order to cater for babies and families before the age of 3, this school runs the Early Bilingual Attendance Project, which provides individualised support for these babies and families.
