Objectives

With the completion of this project, we wanted to show our students that school is more than a place of learning and create differentiated learning. Create an opportunity to bring the outside world into the classroom and vice versa. We wanted our students to leave their comfort zone, and explore their abilities, by carrying out tasks for the project, thus improving their study skills, presentation of work and interaction with other students. We also intend to: stimulate the appreciation and knowledge of cultural and historical heritage (linked to the sea) to motivate sea conservation and respect for the environment throughout the world; improve students' general study skills to better prepare them for higher education; create a working group with internationalization as its main priority; professionalization and organization of a team of teachers, in order to be able to offer a better education within an international context and create a feeling of companionship, promote tolerance and increase the feeling of being European.

Background

The B/S School of Calheta (São Jorge - Azores) teaches students from pre-school to secondary school and offers its 2nd and 3rd Cycle students, Specialized Education in Sports, and to its Secondary students, Science and Technology, Socioeconomic Sciences and Languages and Humanities and also PROFIJ II and PROFIJ IV courses. The vast majority of students, upon finishing secondary education, choose to continue their studies and continue university education. This project was created on the theme of the sea and to raise awareness among young people about the effects of the use of plastic, ensuring the sustainability of the seas through practices that provide employment based on maintaining the balance of fishing areas, information on the production of textiles and clothing from alternative raw materials and recycled materials, the use of water resources for energy production, as well as information on the development of techniques to protect against the impacts of the climate crisis. The project invites students to explore the sea of their countries, to travel through the history of their countries and to explore places and natural elements that have interacted for years leading to characteristics of modern life.
