Objectives

The Profile of the pedagogical work that has been developed at Arco Maior is based on the following methodologies: Project-based learning, development of socio-emotional skills, implementation of individual projects, training workshops for the development of vocational activities and professional experiences in context real work. As Arco Maior has a young team of teachers and considering the target audience, it is important that Arco Maior teachers are equipped with new tools to develop their pedagogical projects, exchanging experiences with schools/teachers from other countries. With these projects, we also want to give the opportunity to some young people who have individual mobility with partner entities selected to host them to develop technical and socio-emotional skills in a European context, thus improving their possible employability. As socio-emotional skills are an area under development within Arco Maior, we want to learn from those who already know a lot, so we intend to hold a seminar for the entire Arco Maior staff with 2 experts from Fundacíon Tomillo in Madrid-Spain invited to promote.

Background

The Arco Maior Association develops the socio-educational project "Arco Maior", recognized by the Ministry of Education of Portugal, which aims to educate and train young people who are early school leavers, from dysfunctional families with low socio-economic levels and high unemployment, in the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. The activity is developed in 4 centers and the project has two coordinators, the Coordinator General, Professor Dr. Joaquim Azevedo, and a Deputy Coordinator, Dr. Antero Afonso, Our main objective is: welcome, integrate and train each young person to build a life project that fully integrates them into society. Young people who attend Arco Maior 2,3 and 4 are integrated into a PIEF, T1 or T2 pathway and their curriculum includes includes the socio-cultural and scientific domains and also areas of vocational training: Dramatic Arts, Multimedia, Service Table and Bar, Computer Installation and Repair and also Telecommunications, Gardening and Kitchen Projects.
