Objectives

The aim of implementing this project was for our school to continue to broaden its horizons toward an Europe-wide participation and learning, especially in the field of Citizenship Education and TWC, while at the same time creating the conditions to strengthen its role as an inclusive all encompassing school. The project was guided by 3 main objectives: 1 - To increase the skills acquired by the students in the TWC, in order to prepare them adequately for societal challenges and entry into the labour market; 2 - To increase the inclusion of students with special educational needs and young immigrants; 3 - To improve the students' skills in the field of citizenship education, preparing them to exercise an active citizenship in multiple contexts, with repercussions on their final exam, the Professional Aptitude Test. Achieving these objectives has resulted in a number of measurable outcomes through several indicators.

Background

This project came to life with the aim of continuing the ‘Be + Be better’ project, that had excellent results (evaluation 93/100). We are a school that gives great importance to Citizenship Education (CE) and teaches the following level 4 courses: Environmental Management (EM), which trains young people to intervene in environmental quality management and sustainable development, and Geographical Information Systems (GIS), which trains young people to manage georeferenced geographical information. Our school community has 42% immigrants, many of them recent immigrants; 23% of our students have special educational needs; and 15% benefit from state financial support. We wanted this project to create the conditions to provide innovative, high-quality vocational training, enabling students to undertake international Training in a Work Context (TWC) that would better prepare them for the world of work and strengthen their skills in the field of citizenship education, while at the same time aiming to increase the inclusion of students with fewer opportunities. We aimed to give our teachers contact with international educational realities so that they could improve their practices and thus the success of their students.
