Objectives

The Erasmus+ Programme, and KA131 in particular, have been crucial in pursuing the internationalization strategy of the University of the Algarve (UAlg). This strategy seeks to meet the objectives set at international level by leading institutions, such as the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN), the global internationalization strategy for Higher Education set by the European Commission, and the four main guiding principles of the Erasmus+ programme. With regard to the 17 SDGs, UAlg has focused its action on promoting quality education, reducing inequalities, climate action and creating partnerships conducive to achieving the SDGs. With regard to the global internationalization strategy for Higher Education defined by the European Commission, the focus is on participating in alliances of higher education institutions, with their own legal status, with the aim of sharing resources and creating an academic offer of excellence. In this regard, and since 2023, UAlg's participation in the European University of the Seas (SEA-EU 2.0) stands out. At the same time, UAlg has geared its actions towards achieving the four fundamental pillars of the Erasmus+ Program: inclusion and diversity; digital transformation; environment, climate and sustainability; and active participation in democratic life. In view of the above, the University of the Algarve's objectives within the scope of this project were as follows: to increase the mobility flows of students and staff; to provide students the opportunity of getting new learning experiences and improve their personal and professional skills; to promote the mobility of teaching and non-teaching staff with a view to signing new Interinstitutional Agreements, promoting new partnerships, participating in blended intensive courses, strengthening contact networks and exchanging good practices. Finally, it should be noted that one of the biggest challenges UAlg currently faces is the commitment to place 50% of students, teachers, researchers and workers in mobility at the partner universities of the European University of the Seas SEA-EU 2.0” by the end of this decade.
