The MERGING VOICES (MV) Consortium, formed by NOVA, UPORTO, UTAD, and UAlg, was established in response to the challenge launched by the Portuguese Government in 2014 to promote a more structured national cooperation among Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and to strengthen the internationalisation of each university. Based on institutional trust and the close relationship between the institutions, Key Action KA171 represented an opportunity to formalise a joint application. In a spirit of cohesion, the HEIs joined forces with the following objectives: to strengthen (inter)national cooperation; to increase the visibility of the quality of Portuguese education; to promote new opportunities for student mobility (SMS); to enhance students' skills and employability; and to raise awareness among staff (STA/STT) about the importance of cooperation beyond Europe. The Consortium HEIs and their partners aligned with EU guidelines, achieving common goals through implemented mobilities and a shared commitment to the principles of the ECHE and the inter-institutional agreements. Since 2016, the purpose of the consortium has remained unchanged: to strengthen and continue the strategic cooperation previously established among MV partners.
