Objectives

We wanted to have Portugal and Denmark providing knowledge and good practices to implement efectively in Romania and Turkye on waste management and reclying at schools. We wanted to achive new trainers in Turkey and Romania that could continue training in the upcoming years and we wanted to provide and engage with hundreds of students and parents in both countries. Also to monitor more waste collected by creating donation centre. The SCSF project aligns with the Europe 2020 Strategy, addressing sustainable growth through efficient resource management, waste reduction, and donation systems. The main objectives of the project were as follows: 1 To develop a waste management and donation system in partner countries 1.1. To create awareness about zero waste and donation; 1.2. To build a waste management and donation centre; 1.3. To create a system and documentation about waste sorting; 2 To build up capacity in partner organizations in terms of sustainable cities and sustainable future; 2.1. To find needy people and to help them; 2.2. To contribute to circular economy of Europe by waste management, effective use of resources and donation; 2.3. To involve at least 400 beneficiaries in the SCSF project and educate them waste-conscious.

Background

To train teachers, provide infromation to students and to parents on reclying. We applied for the SCSF project to expand the Zero Waste Campaign beyond schools and organizations , engaging entire communities. While waste management is effective in countries like Germany, Denmark, and the UK, in others such as Turkey, Romania, and Bulgaria, 90% of waste is still landfilled, with less than 5% recycled. Addressing this disparity, SCSF aims to raise awareness and promote action in these regions. The project aligns with the European Commission’s 2030 Sustainable Goals and the 7th Environment Action Programme, reinforcing waste reduction, reuse, and donation. Unlike prior campaigns, which lacked a strong awareness component, SCSF focuses first on education and then mobilizes parents and local residents to act. By implementing resource management systems in partner organizations, we contribute to a greener society and mitigate global environmental challenges. According to the World Bank’s Global Waste Index, without immediate action, global waste production will rise by 70% by 2050. SCSF directly addresses this urgent need by equipping communities in Romania and Turkey with knowledge and practical tools for sustainable waste management.
