The overall objective: to address the issue of social inclusion for people with physical disabilities within the educational context, specifically: - Implementation and promotion of awareness and self-advocacy activities using creative pedagogical practices such as music, theater, personalized assessments, role play, and inclusive games. - Empowering individuals in the broader social context: teachers and students without disabilities. The Specific Objectives are: 1.Raise awareness and motivate everyone about the difficulties and challenges faced by people with disabilities. 2.Empower people with disabilities within their social context. 3.Empower AS and IWA to work transnationally and enhance the quality of their awareness and social inclusion work. 4.Learn new methodologies and improve existing ones for the social inclusion of children with disabilities in the educational context in Portugal and Ireland.
We applied for this Project to learn and implmement new ways to address the problem of social exclusion of people with physical disabilities in the field of school education, by implementing and promoting activities around awareness and self-advocacy, using creative teaching practices including music, theater, custom assessments, role-playing and inclusive games. The main goal was not only to empower people with disabilities, but to facilitate their inclusion in the broader social context by encouraging teachers and other students without disabilities to learn more and to participate in the discussion about the difficulties and challenges faced by people with disabilities in their daily lives. Associação Salvador (AS) and the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) are key drivers of social transformation projects in their national contexts. This partnership should also act as a first step for these organizations into cooperation at European level, with the goal to support active European citizenship and bring the European dimension to the local level involved, opening up to local schools, NGOs and other partners of AS and IWA that are not naturally included in activities of European dimension.
