P45 developed a comprehensive, accessible and tailored programme to re/upskilling 45+ adults, fostering a resilient workforce driven by innovation, creativity and cooperation. Beyond work, such kind of lifelong learning boosts confidence, problem-solving and involvement in the community, improving well-being. P45 also raised awareness among organisations for the importance of training schemes for 45+ adults, to avoid ageism. The project main objectives were to: -Raise awareness among 45+ adults and organisations, about the necessity of specific training programmes. -Develop a comprehensive curriculum addressing the current needed knowledge, skills and attitudes for 45+ adults. -Launch a pioneer training resource, free and open to any 45+ adult and any enterprise or organisation interested in lifelong learning courses based on the project materials. -Break borderlines among businesses and Adult Education (AE), creating common methods and skills that will allow to increase the quality of both the AE offer and the businesses performance and resilience. -Ensure the project sustainability and impact after its end by assuring the access to project results, with strong emphasis on results promotion to secure its impact on AE policies.
When PRIORITY45 (P45) was conceptualised, the COVID-19 aftermath was transforming work and everyday life, posing challenges, especially for 45+ adults. Teleworking, social distancing and digital tools have become essential, but older generations - especially the less qualified - have struggled to adapt. With automation reshaping the labour market, re/upskilling are crucial, but few organisations offer training programmes for workers as they age and civil society often lags behind in these offers. Research indicates that the age of 45 is a critical turning point, where people face the greatest difficulties in acquiring new skills for work and overall literacy, often suffering from ageism, even in the workplace. To remain competitive and participate fully in society, they need essential skills such as creativity, innovation, and digital literacy, even for entrepreneurial opportunities. In addition to technical skills, adult learning approaches need to be considered - adults have little time for formal education, prefer practical, hands-on learning and seek knowledge directly relevant to their lives. P45 addressed the urgent need for tailored adult education, empowering 45+ adults to adapt, succeed and contribute to a changing world.
