IN2PREV aims to facilitate refugees and asylum seekers integration, fostering the cooperation and collaboration between public entities (e.g., LEAs), community organisations, and refugees and asylum seekers’ representatives, raising awareness of LEAs and community practitioners to the specific needs and challenges faced by refugees and asylum seekers, and establishing inclusion strategies to mitigate the difficulties encountered in the acculturation process. IN2PREV also intended to promote the early-identification (and prevent the existence) of vulnerability risk factors that potentialise radicalisation in refugees and asylum seekers. Partners defined procedures that seek to trace potential vulnerabilities (at the cognitive, behavioural, social levels) to the radicalisation process and enhanced competencies of frontline practitioners, such as LEAs and NGOs, (in order to guarantee the proper support to the individual to mitigate any initially screened vulnerability risk factors) to ensure a longitudinal and cross-sectoral intervention.
The main motivation behind the IN2PREV project was the refugee crises that impacted Europe mostly since 2015. In particular, after the invasion of Ukraine, more than 5 million people fled from Ukraine to other European Countries. This influx, together with refugees from other latitudes, poses serious challenges to European countries, related to their immediate and long-term accommodation, acculturation and potential integration into host societies, availability of services such as education, healthcare, and other immigration services, among others. Refugees and asylum seekers have specific needs that need to be addresses and therefore the IN2PREV project wanted to contribute to the identification of refugees and asylum seekers needs and vulnerabilities, providing them potential solutions for a better integration while at the same time promoting the communication and cooperation among professionals in European Countries dealing with the refugee crisis, and providing them adequate training on the assessment of this population.
