The objectives defined in the BRAINFINITY application guided all our work throughout the project, ensuring coherence, quality, and impact. We aimed to promote a shift in teaching practices and empower both teachers and students with the competences needed to thrive in the 21st century. Specifically, we wanted to: 1. Increase teachers’ capacity to move from expository teaching to facilitator and mentor roles. 2. Strengthen teachers’ ability to motivate and actively involve students in learning. 3. Help teachers understand and teach innovation-related skills like creative thinking, collaboration, researching and problem-solving. 4. Motivate students to independently search for, assess, and apply information. 5. Encourage students to express ideas confidently and work effectively in teams. With the developed resources, we intended to: 1. Develop educational resources, training content, and tools aligned with real-life problem-solving. 2. Promote cross-border collaboration and create sustainable structures like national competitions and an online portal. These objectives were central to every activity and result developed during the project.
The Brainfinity Project addressed the critical need to equip 11-14-year-old students with essential 21st-century skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork, which are often overlooked by traditional education. Our current system, focused on memorization, doesn't prepare students for an unpredictable future job market demanding adaptability and digital readiness. Across Europe, students increasingly lack essential transversal skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving—competences highlighted by PISA and the EU Key Competences Framework as vital for lifelong learning and employability. We applied to provide teachers with innovative methodologies and tools, such as challenge-based learning and detective tasks, to engage students and bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-life application. This initiative emerged from successful pilot Brainfinity competitions in Serbia, proving the approach's effectiveness. Our diverse partnership aimed to transfer this innovative practice across the EU, fostering a systematic approach to developing higher-order thinking skills and ensuring the long-term impact on students' personal and professional lives.
