Objectives

The project was implemented in a rural village, Ponte de Lima, in the district of Viana do Castelo. During a week of activities about carbon footprints in our daily lives we instructed that by reducing our footprint we can have a positive impact on the environment. Arts were used as a tool, since it’s a way of expression, communication and connection between individuals. We gathered waste from wherever possible and created artworks (upcycled art) to present to the community. An exposition was held at the “Estúdio das Artes”. Some of these art pieces were taken home by participants and others were left at the studio to be sold in order to raise money and donate it to the APPACDM (Portuguese Association of Parents and Friends of Mentally Disabled Citizens). This had a positive impact on each to understand how to diminish our footprint and in the way we see garbage. Youngsters from different parts of the EU connected to exchange/share knowledge, cultures and experiences on the topic. Our main objectives were the following: To support sustainability and sustainable development; To raise awareness on environmental issues; To diminish carbon footprints; To promote the three R’s rule: Reuse, Reduce, Recycle; To promote upcycling; To enhance young people’s active citizenship; To encourage youngsters to become active in their own communities; To support individuals by strengthening their skills and capabilities. Our project is connected to the Erasmus+ Programme and this specific key action because it’s an effective instrument to contribute to the intercultural dialogue on sustainable issues and promote sustainability, as well as to enhance young people’s active citizenship towards climate change.
